From the looks of the rave reviews, Kindle doesn't have a very large client-base of college students who purchase eTextbooks. (Which is predominantly what I use this app for, as I have a Nook for recreational books.) The last update broke eTextbooks in landscape mode. It automatically zooms into the borders and doesn't allow you to zoom out to scan the whole page. This is ridiculously obnoxious as you have to flip over your iPad to scan pages. The dictionary feature is also buggy now, and difficult to navigate onto the visible screen while using eTextbooks in landscape mode. Bugs that were present before the last update are still glaring. When flipping through pages, it frequently lags and you will see nothing but blank, white pages. It usually takes 5-30 seconds to recover and load the pages. The "flash cards" option (while in landscape mode) yanks the book out of landscape mode and into portrait mode. You cannot return to portrait mode without restarting Kindle for iPad. When you're searching for text, if the highlighted word is near the bottom of the page, the preview of neighboring pages block your view of the highlighted word you searched. When you tap to remove the preview, the word you were hunting down is no longer highlighted. It has a great deal of promise, but the combination of textbook companies fighting the transition to eBooks, the way Amazon is quick to release software without thoroughly bug-testing it, and many students still hesitant to make the switch to eTextbooks makes it pretty awful for textbook use.
