Broken syncing and iPad support ruin an otherwise great program Broken syncing and iPad support ruin an otherwise great programWriting in Ulysses III and organizing what you write is perfect - as long as you only use your Mac. Unfortunately, iCloud syncing is broken for some of us, and Daedalus Touch for iOS is thoroughly inadequate for the job. Sync is already crippled from the start, as Daedalus Touch doesn’t support many of the features of Ulysses III, and they don’t seem to be in a hurry to add new features to Daedalus Touch. But that aside, what does exist in terms of sync is disappointing and frustrating: First, ‘iCloud’ and ‘Daedalus Touch’ are greyed out in the Ulysses preferences for me. This is inexplicable, as iCloud syncing works for other apps. This leaves me with Dropbox syncing. Files at least sync through Dropbox, but Ulysses and Daedalus Touch like to randomly reorganize my pieces of writing and create duplicate files, specifically: - Daedalus Touch apparently numbers the files on Dropbox according to their order and includes this number at the beginning of the filename. Ulysses III then believes that the file whose title starts with ‘5’ comes before ’49’ and ’51’. If I reorganize the files in Ulysses III they will stay in the correct order until I sync Daedelus Touch again. Then the files are a mess once again in Ulysses III. - If I change the name of a piece of writing in Ulysses III, Daedalus Touch then sees it as a new piece of writing. When I sync back to Dropbox from Daedalus, I now have duplicates, both the old file and now the newer version with the changed title. These aren’t glitches; this is how their Dropbox sync system works, and it is a mess. I would love to use Ulysses III and Daedalus Touch for all of my writing. But they have been working on this sync system for years (I was a beta tester when they first introduced sync to Daedalus Touch) and it is frustrating that the service is so unusable.

Proprietary file format is a complete deal-breaker Proprietary file format is a complete deal-breakerThere’s so much to like here. The interface is beautiful, the library is genius, and the export workflow is an absolute pleasure to use. But… Ulysses keeps all your writing in a proprietary file format that cannot be accessed directly. This goes directly against the design philosophy of Markdown, and it should scare off anyone who writes professionally. Not only does this decision make your writing inaccessible to other tools (incluidng, for example, text editors for mobile devices, bibliography software, or publishing platforms like LaTeX), but more importantly it leaves you completely vulnerable to any bugs or questionable design decisions that The Soulmen might introduce in the future. There’s not even a good way to back everything up. It’s a devastating mistake. There is an option to keep your library stored in a local directory instead of in iCloud, but if you do that nearly all of the program’s interesting features stop working. I contacted the company about all this, and they said they couldn’t figure out how to make everything work without a special container document that scatters your writing over several different files. That’s unfortunate, since other programs that work with markdown figured out how to it. They’re not as nice to use, but at least I know my writing’s safe.

Great notepad Great notepadDoes it all - little text snippets I generate during the day to huge multilevel documents. It’s pretty _and_ smart; everything else I tried was one but not the other. Editing a text file is soothing now.

Inspiruje i motywuje do pisania Inspiruje i motywuje do pisaniaJeżeli szukasz narzędzia do pisania, notowania i jednoczesnego organizowania swoich „dzieł", polecam Ulysses III. Czyste narzędzie, wykorzytujące język MarkUp, minimalistyczny wygląd, sporo przydatnych funkcji (statystyki słów z celem, tagi, 3 rodzaje widoku pracy, kustomizacja kolorów widoku pracy, eksport do wybranego formatu) czynią z niego potężne narzędzie zarowno do pisania jak i do publikowania. Wsparcie klienta na przyzwoitym, wysokim poziomie. Czekam jeszcze na możliwość publikacji do Wordpress bezpośrednio z programu (funkcja została obiecana przez The Soulmen), ale w sumie bardzo serdecznie polecam Ulysses III.
