Great little database Great little databaseI’ve had a number of databases over the years, from Bento (which I could never figure out) to HandBase (powerful, but complicated) and this one really hits the sweet spot. It’s capable of doing a lot, but you can also create simple applications with very little effort. There are also little touches like the ability to create a field where you can enter an address or other searchable term and it will find/display it on a map. Another killer feature is the multi-platform sync; I can create a database on my mac and sync it to my phone. Then when I make changes on one device, it propagates those changes to the other. The developer has also been very responsive and releases changes and fixes frequently. Great app, great support—what more could you want?

The best personal database available for Mac The best personal database available for MacI was a serious Bento user. After the announcement that Bento was being discontinued, I panicked, then started looking for a replacement. But try as I might nothing came close to the ease of use or the features of bento. I tried HanDBase, iDatabase, and Filemaker Pro. HanDBase, was pretty good but difficult to set up and use, and the user manual was worthless. iDatabase was not fully functional from a reporting or searching standpoint, and difficult to use, not intuitive at all. And Filemaker Pro, while very capable of doing anything and everything, was very expensive and way to difficult to learn, ( Imean a serious learning curve). Enter Tap Forms… in the beginning I had my issues with it as well, there were some things it wouldn’t do, and it was very different than Bento in ease of use, but the one thing that sold me on Tap Forms is the developer. He’s always available, I mean this guy doesn’t sleep, he’s always been available whenever I have a question, and he has continued to develop the product to the point that it is outstanding. Several times I’ve requested a feature and he comes back with I’m working on that or that is scheduled for a future update. Tap forms works for me, and it sync’s with my iPhone and iPad in the cloud, all you have to do is hit sync and your other devices are immediately updated, (well almost immediately, really fast). There are a few things that were easier to do with Bento, but with the current development of Tap Forms, I’m confident that in a very short time, Tap Forms will be far superior to Bento, and the support is unmatched. It really is the only choice if you’re looking for a portable database that you can work with on your mobile device away from the office and return and sync every thing up to your desktop.

Great database app for OS X - good replacement for Bento Great database app for OS X - good replacement for BentoTap Forms is the best, most customisable personal database app for OS X (and iOS too). It's a great replacement for those that were using Bento. I was able to export all of my data from Bento (inc. images) and then import in to Tap Forms. The app supports FTP and Dropbox import/export as well as syncing with other devices via iCloud - which is surprisingly reliable (considering it's iCloud). Tap Forms supports numerous different field types including encrypted and calculated fields (which allows you to perform some basic automatic calculations using the values of other fields on your form e.g. "[Total] - [Deposit]". The new custom layout functionality in version 2.0 addresses one of Tap Forms previous limitations - it wasn't very customisable in terms of UI/form design. Now you can customise the layout of your forms as much as you like. And you can also create multiple layouts per form - one for the screen and one for printing, for example. Great performance improvements (scrolling, switching between forms) in version 2.1.1 and later. The developer is very responsive and helpful and provides great support via email and Tap Forms own forums. Highly recommended.

Looking for a user friendly database? This is it. Looking for a user friendly database? This is it.I bought this to replace Bento. Because it can do cloud syncing, it surpasses Bento. It’s great having databases sync between my Mac, iPhone, & iPad. If you’re looking for an easy to use, reasonably priced database you really can’t go wrong with Tap Forms.
