Brilliant BrilliantI've used Keoki and Yuko's MarineLifePhotography.com website as a resource for marine critter identification for years. This app, although a little pricey, is great as a quick go-to for invertebrates because you don't need an Internet connection. The indexed list of families is useful, but seems a bit confusing as it lists Cone Shells, Rock Shells, Miters, Cowries, etc. as separate families, yet includes a family listed as Shells that includes all other shell families. If the producers come up with an update, I would suggest putting all the shells into the Shell family index and then listing the various shell species. I know this app is already large, but it is missing a lot of invertebrates that are on the website above. Also, this app only includes one picture per species, which is difficult to do because some species appear differently at different stages or in different areas. More variety of photos per species would be useful. There is no zoom feature available for photos, which would also be useful. Even though I've been critical about this app, I still use it and would suggest it to others (as well as their website). Even if it's missing a few species you want to identify, you can still look it up using another source later. This app includes a fair amount of species for those without marine biology backgrounds but enjoy marine critters.

If only I had an underwater housing for my iPhone! If only I had an underwater housing for my iPhone!Great app. Have been using Keoki and Yuko's website for several years to ID fish and invertebrates. This app is so much more convenient, especially on the boat immediately after a dive. The interface is simple to use and the photos are beautiful.

Stunningly beautiful... and useful too Stunningly beautiful... and useful tooWhat a wonderful app this is. I snorkel and scuba the beaches of Oahu every weekend and I take photos and record videos of my excursions. I often see these critters in the photos and videos, but when people ask me what they are, I am at a loss. While I know most of the fish, I have a hard time with the many species of crabs and this app fixes that for me. It's not just the moving critters either. What I find most useful are the corals and the seaweeds, whose beauty I admire, but whose names completely elude me. All of them are now easy to find and identify. This app is beautifully done and very easy to navigate. The images are simply beautiful, very sharp and richly colored with the right amount of contrast to instantly recognize the species. The videos are spectacular too and so relaxing to watch. Just one suggestion: I would prefer to have the name of the videographer in the video list rather than in the video itself. But that's a minor issue that could easily be fixed in an update, since it seems that the name is just superimposed on the video via software (and in very small print). Overal this is one of the most tastefully done apps I have seen and I can recommend this to anyone, who loves the ocean or plans to visit Hawaii for a snorkel or scuba adventure.
