Okay as standalone app Okay as standalone appI’ve been measuring HRV on and off for the past few years, and now as technology has improved to the point where iPhones can now connect to bluetooth heart rate monitors, the data is finally becoming really useful for training. This app does a decent job at measuring HRV, and the measurements are color-coded so that you know whether to go ahead with training, maybe ease off on the training, or take a rest day. The app works with the Polar H7 and Suunto Movesense transmitters. I had a few days over the past month or so when I either had a race or was really tired from travel, and the app picked up on my fatigue and recommended rest days. Where this app really shines though, is when it is used in conjunction with the iThlete Pro web-based service. You get more robust feedback.

Good App, Poor Security Practices Good App, Poor Security PracticesOverall I like this app, and liked the features enough to even pay for a pro subscription. However, when I went to recover my password it was sent to me in plain text in an email. This is a terrible practice and shows that they fail to treat my information and credentials with the appropriate precautions that they should take. If it wasn’t for their poor security practices this app would be rated much higher.

Nice when it works Nice when it worksSome days I will be able to record with no issue, but more often then not the app will lose connection to my Bluetooth hr monitor before a measurement finishes and make me start over again. Not nearly reliable enough for me to endorse.

Pairing fixed (was Tracking stopped) Pairing fixed (was Tracking stopped)Update: Got it back to working... Key for me was NOT to have the H7 as a Bluetooth device ('My devices' in iPhone settings). For some reason iThlete now can always pick up the H7 when I have deliberately not paired it with my phone. Previous review: Was somehow able to measure my HRV for first two days - then for last two days ithlete does not pick up my Polar H7 whatever I do (uninstall/reinstall, wet, clean, conduction gel). Other HRV apps read HR fine. Frustrating!
