Not so disappointed! Not so disappointed!V. 1.7.3 Really good to see Delorme continuing to update. The app now seems to do everything it claims. There are improvements that could be made to the GUI/HI, but fundamentally it does the job. Good to see continued work on the web portal as well. Great, maps apparently fixed in this release, though I have not managed to test yet due to limited GSM band width. Still not working is the display of the messages on the iPad. Both sent and received messages appear truncated in the message bubbles. The full messages are received and sent by the device and can be fully viewed on the device, but not in the iPad (air, current iOS). Does work on iPhone. The device is doing its core messaging and tracking job very well. Please keep the updates coming....! Initial review: Ok, so messaging side of things seems to work well, but the maps function has major issues when using an iPad Air. Library and data functions do not work. The maps download, but do not display. Zoom out and you get very blotchy coverage, zoom in and nothing at all. Maps do seem to work on an iPhone 5, but there is no choice, it is topographic only (Europe, Austrailia), and the quality is very poor, many minor roads missing etc. You would be screwed if you were trying to navigate using it. On the hardware side, the inreach Explorer device does seem very good at sending/receiving messages and acquiring GPS, though the navigation functions on it are poor. + Good communications and tracking from hardware. Core function works a treat. - Broken earthmate software on iPad Very poor resolution maps Poor navigation features on device DeLorme: you've got the hardware working, make me happy... sort out the software. Oh-yes, your messing about with my credit card details triggered my bank to cancel it because of suspected fraudulent activity. Way to go!

Keeps me connected Keeps me connectedI've used on numerous mountaineering, heliboarding, hiking, camping and hunting trips to track my route, update my website and communicate with loved ones. Paired with an InReach device it gives me the right level of "contactableness" and a backup access to SAR should the worst case scenario happen. Basically I don't go in the back country without it.

Maps need improving Maps need improvingLove the capabilities of the Delorme inreach. But the maps in the app are useless. There needs to be a true topo map or integrated into google maps. The ones on the app are brutal and waste of time
