Excellent - Simple, minimal, yet very useful Excellent - Simple, minimal, yet very usefulExcellent text editor for Markdown writing. Simple, minimal, yet it gives me enough usefulness to use it on regular basis. It doesn’t try to do too much favor yet it does just enough useful things for me and then get out of my way. The way software should be. Excellent work, Metaclassy!

Love ByWord Love ByWordI was recently convinced to try working with txt files and I am loving it. Txt files are simple, small, and will always be accessible in the future. And ByWord is by far the best tool I’ve found to worth with plain text. The clean look and feel makes writing the focus, as it should be. You can export to PDF, HTML, DOC and other helpful formats. I love Typewriter Mode which keeps the cursor in the center of the screen. Definitely worth the price and and easy transition from traditional word processors.

A Delight A DelightI have always been a full-featured word processing kind of guy. But while doing some unrelated research, I kept reading references to Byword. I already had iaWriter—mostly because I was told I “should” have it—but I never fully understood how I should use it. So why should my interest be piqued by Byword? There was something in the passion with which people talk about it. There was something in the comparisons between Byword and iaWriter. I found myself getting curioser and curiouser. When I project came up that required be to do a lot of plain text editing, I figured it was a good excuse. And boy am I glad I got this gem. Where I always found iaWriter utilitarian (and Text Editor flat out depressing), Byword just makes me happy when I use it. It could be the soothing look. It could be the font (I love the Byword font so much more than the one in iaWriter). It could be the perfect blend of you-don’t-need-this-minimalism and well-there-are-some-things-you-need practicality. The upshot is that I find myself looking for excuses to use it. Mark up. Rich text. I love it all around.

Looking for a Straightforward, Sneaky-Powerful Text Editor? Look No Further. Looking for a Straightforward, Sneaky-Powerful Text Editor? Look No Further.I do a small amount of writing for my job, and I've tried a number of different text editors and writing apps over the years. Nothing beats the simple (not *simplistic*), easy-to-use Byword. Storing my documents in Dropbox makes it a breeze to move seamlessly among my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. I've also started using Markdown over the last year, which Byword was built to handle. Excellent, excellent app. If you have an iOS device (or two), don't stop here. Buy the Mac version and then go get the others from the iOS app store. You won't regret it.

Neat & tidy app. Neat & tidy app. There are a lot of apps for writers around, ranging from complex heavy-hitters to apps so minimalist that you wonder if they’re actually there. This gets the balance just about right. For getting thoughts out of your head and onto ‘paper’ this is just right, and I especially like the dark theme for working at night or in half light. The only thing I would really like (feature request!) is an ‘auto-save’ to a Byword file on the dock or desktop, like Notational Velocity does.
