Awful AwfulAudobon books are great, but they teamed up with real amateurs to make their apps. Many things don't work at all; advanced search just crashes the app, etc etc. Its unusable, really. And with no updates in 3 years, don't expect it to get better. Save your money.

Not very comprehensive! Not very comprehensive!I have many Audubon apps, and have found them rather uneven in quality. Some, like the bird app, are amazing - well worth the cost. Others, like this Pacific Northwest app, simply do not include enough species to be useful. To give one example: my family and I took many ferries across Puget Sound this summer, and saw hundreds of jellyfish. The kids really wanted to know what kind they were, so I thought this app would be helpful. Unfortunately, though there are many thousands of types of jellyfish in area waters, the app only included *two*. Moreover, one of the two included was the Portuguese Man-o-war, which is relatively rare in the region. The most commonly seen jellyfish, such as the egg-yolk jellyfish, the moon jelly, and the lion's mane jelly, were not included. I don't expect an app like this to have hundreds or thousands of species of jellyfish listed, but it seems reasonable to expect that they could list five or six of the region's most common kinds! Their listings of creatures commonly found in NW tide pools are similarly limited. I hope that the makers of the app will continue to add species to their lists so that the app can actually be useful in the way it was intended to be.

Major groups missing, result = disappointment Major groups missing, result = disappointmentFerns and other non flowering plants not included, nor are barnacles and I'm sure I'll find more the longer I look. Pretty huge oversight for an ap covering the Pacific Northwest!
