ALONG THE RIVER DURING CHING MING FESTIVAL known in Chinese was the work of Song Dynasty artist, Zhang Zeduan (1085-1145 BC). The painting captures the daily life of people from the Song dynasty at the capital, Pien Jing (today's Kaifeng). The theme celebrates Ching Ming Festival (Tomb-sweeping day). The entire piece was painted in handscroll format (24.8cm * 528.7cm) and the content reveals the lifestyle of all stratum of the society (from rich to poor, astonishing head count of 1659 and 209 other creatures) as well as different economic activities in rural areas and the city.
