  • Decent transcriber
I like the following about the app: • smooth interface, • cost, • high accuracy rate when speaking in near vicinity of microphone (a little awkward on an iPad; helps to have headset with mic), • ability to bring keyboard up at any time during editing; • menu for sending text directly to mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The 60-sec limitation on recording (in one burst) isn't really too troublesome, as you can always add more to any note you have (just 60 seconds of audio can be recorded in a single stream). The audio recording is probably easier on an iPhone, but the editing is far easier on an iPad with the larger screen.

  • Rekindled my sudoku cravings
I grew tired of the 9x9 basic sudoku a couple years ago and migrated to kukuro and kendoku. The scoring system on this adaptation makes it much more enjoyable to see how fast you can zip through puzzles. Add to that several customization options and the unlocking of higher levels by completing lower ones, and this is a great app.

  • Best book-reading app; PDFs a plus
Out of the two main book readers available for the iPad, this is my favorite. Smooth, fluid motion; easy-to-adjust settings. More visually appealing. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the bookstore support that the other reader has. Which is probably something that's just going to take time. Until then, books that are equally priced and available at the iBookstore, this is the app I'll be using. I also use it to read all the pdfs I have on my iPad. Definitely winner in that regard as well.

  • 2 interface glitches, but overall better than Google via browser
It's actually a more compact way of searching conveniently for anything you'd normally be using Google for in your browser. Includes voice and image search, which I don't think browser versions have yet. The only drawbacks on this iPad version are 1) certain screens (such as login-to-google) only display in Portrait mode, even if you were in Landscape mode prior and after to accessing the Sign In 2) The dimensions of some pages are too long in the vertical direction to fit: the iPad's menu bar (with wifi signal, time, battery, etc.) obscures the top of the screens, leaving only half of the Google buttons (like Back) touchable

  • Adequate, but not the smoothest
Not my least favorite of the five free translators I tried on my iPad, but not my favorite either. It's major advantage over the others is the ability to open up a web page inside the app and have it translated. Includes a pop up window that appears every time you leave the app, though, which gets really frustrating (because you can't close the app without leaving the window there; pressing 'Later' just closes it temporarily and reopens it when you click the iPad button to exit again.
