Touch and Go Knitting Touch and Go KnittingKnitting is an arena that I know so very little about, but it is an industry that has flourished over the years with a helpful worldwide community quick to share some tips or lend a hand. Thankfully, I have a co-worker who knits regularly and was able to make use of this very practical application. When I first introduced the software to her, she was amazed such as this could simplify the most challenging aspects off knitting. What follows below are her thoughts captured as she was using the application. The test swatch feature allows the user to enter needle size, yarn weight and brand name. These calculations are then available for all other functions on the site. Once you have knitted the test swatch, users can take a picture of it and the app will compare your swatch to the gauge and tell you if you are knitting to the gauge’s specifications. You can have two, simultaneous on-going projects working at the same time with different needle sizes and yarn weight. The counter function allows you to count either two different projects or two counts on the same project (rows and repetitions). Unfortunately, using the counter was not intuitive for me. The button feature helps users place buttons/button holes on the garment. Users can set the length of the available space on the garment, the number of buttons and the width (in stitches) of the buttons and the app tells you where to place them. One thing isn’t clear: the icons on the right refer to “button width” but the instructions on the top of the screen refer to BH, which I assume is button height but there is no description of the abbreviation. Also, when users change the “button width” measurement, the screen pictures of the buttons increase vertically instead of horizontally. I had some trouble with the touch screen rulers but that is probably my lack of dexterity with the iPhone interface. The shawl and scarf functions allow users to set the desired size of the garment and the app tells users the number of stitches and rows users will need. The neck and cuff functions make it easy to change the shape of the neckline and add a cuff. I appreciated having the needle size table, abbreviation list and legend for knitting charts all in one place. Suggestions for future enhancements: •Description of the functionality…I am not sure I didn’t miss something •Library of names and pictures of different stitches. •Ability to add more than two projects and ability to name all projects including author, book number, pattern number, size and color yarn Overall, this application does a great job addressing the needs unique to the world of knitting. Touch and Go is highly recommended as an application that can help users navigate quickly, easily and intuitively through everyday tasks that are rather laborious and time-consuming. Touch and Go Knitting provides the convenience of directly addressing these challenging yet essential steps in a powerful and informative software for your iDevice.

A little rough around the edges A little rough around the edgesA handy app, but it needs more information on how to use it within the app itself. I had to go on the website to be able to understand where meaurements corresponded to on the real knitting and I am a very tech-savy person(computer programmer) and an advanced knitter. I also think that the needle chart is confusing. A way to enter your own yarn names into the swatch info would be great as well as an option to set which needle measuring system to use. I don't really think that it is worth $5 with the issues I mentioned, but this app has the framework to be great.

Cool App - Outdated iPod Cool App - Outdated iPodHad seen the app on a friend's iphone and downloaded it before I realized that my ipod didn't use the current OS. NO WAY to upgrade the OS either - nobody at iTunes or the Apple help line could offer a solution so the app sits, unused, in my iTunes download folder. When I saw it in use, it was very cool. On the downside, the only sweater shape handled is raglan - which is uaually difficult to chart so that is a plus, but less experienced knitters will miss drop shoulders and set in sleeves.
