Stars a mixed blessing. Stars a mixed blessing.Been using this app continuously for years. Long-time fan. While the technical achievment of the star field is impressive (those aren’t just a bunch of random white dots, people ─ they represent the actual stars that you’d see behind the Earth from any given angle), I agree with other posters here that there should be an option to turn them off. For one thing, the desktop app no longer matches the iOS version, so my lovely five-screen arrangement which has included an iPad and iPhone for the past year is now all out of whack. [Update: strike that - iOS verson just got updated with a fully interactive scrolling starfield - you guys just earned your star back.] More generally, it would be really nice if you could tweak the appearance a bit more than simply making the clouds brighter at night. A similar product on the PC platform, Earthview, allows you to fine-tune your view of the planet in nearly every conceivable way. It’s so flexible that I’ve been able to precisely match the appearance of Living Earth itself, granting a sublime sense of unity between my Synergy-connected Mac and work PC. It would be really lovely to have at least some of that funcitonality with Living Earth, which in all other ways is already the superior product. Also, when is this desktop going to go animated? We’ve been able to spin the globe on the iOS version for years. It would be great to replicate that with the OSX version, even if it’s non-interactive.

The best background for mac, retty good in general as well The best background for mac, retty good in general as wellI have this continually running as my desktop, and I love it. As a weather app, there are better ones out there, but to be honest I think it is good enough as a desktop background and clock/average weather app.

Version 1.20 Version 1.20This is an update to a previous review. The developer of this app recently sent me a new version that has an option to turn off stars in the background. My desktop now looks slick again and the app is back on my ‘Must haves for Mac’ list. Many thanks to the developer for making this change! PREVIOUS REVEIW: I really dislike this latest update. It has replaced the simple black background with stars and there is no way to turn it off. I think it makes the desktop look very tacky and cluttered. For now, I have stopped using this application until I can figure out how to install the older version. I wish I had read the upgrade notes. Think very carefully before upgrading as I just ruined one of my favorite apps.
