Insufficient InsufficientNot enough phrases, some badly categorised. There's better for less.

Ok, but very limited Content Ok, but very limited ContentI like the General idea of a quick reference for the most Important phrases, the app itself is nicely programmed and very easy to use. The illustrations are nice and Japanese style. From is perspective it could be a 5 star app. Unfortunately the actual content provided by categories is fairly limited and could include far more phrases. The written Romagi is "as you speak" but does not reflect the actual written Japanese phrases. Additionally the references section does not include any spoken translations at all, which is sad. Counting as reference is nice but does not include "general" counting for items that can easily be used by foreigners to count any item. Since there are many irregular numbers it does not relay help to know the suffix for each type of item anyway. Please update and add more content.

Great - Waiting for RETINA update Great - Waiting for RETINA updateI've been to Tokyo three times in the last year, and have downloaded a bunch of Japanese language apps. This one is by far my fav. The layout is cheerful and easy to navigate, the sound is excellent (see tips) and I always get a smile when sharing. I would love to see an update for iPhone 4 RETINA display quality! A few tips for the audio volume playback: iPhone Settings -> Sounds -> Ringer and Alerts -> Change with Buttons "move the cursor to the right to the maximum) Bottom Line: This apps covers the basics really well and as a result it's the most useful in practice language app out there.

Flawed by poor text rendering Flawed by poor text renderingOverall this app is pretty good, although there are some strange omissions (e.g. it tells you how to ask for the time, but not how times are stated). The reference section entry for counter words is quite inadequate. The most serious problem is the poor text rendering. The screenshots do not accurately depict how the text is rendered, at least not on my iPod Touch (4th gen). The English rendering of the Japanese phrases is at times nearly unreadable.
