Life with diabetes just can now be safer and easier! The DiabetesGuard smartphone application is an advanced, easy to use alarm system for those living with diabetes, giving you added safety in everyday life.
Are you anxious about hypoglycaemia?
Do you worry about going out for a walk or a run alone in case you get in to trouble and can't get help?
Do you find yourself setting alarms all through the night to wake yourself up and check your levels because you don't want to be low in the morning?
The DiabetesGuard smartphone application allows you to create different types of alarms to suit your lifestyle and will alert your chosen contacts (we like to call them guardians) if you don't take action when an alarm goes off. The Diabetes Guard smartphone application was created in Norway where it has been running very successfully for over a year (with a year of closed trials with healthcare professionals before that), winning several awards along the way.
Here's how it works:
1. Before going to sleep, you create an alarm as usual but you have the ability to assign guardians and update them with useful information should you require any help.
2. We register that alarm on our super smart server that's sitting in the cloud.
3. When it comes to morning time the server will activate the alarm and tell your phone to make a lot of noise.
4. If you haven't turned off the alarm after 5 minutes, the server will assume something is up and take further action.
5. The guardians that you previously assigned to the alarm will now be contacted one by one with an automated phone call, informing them that you didn't disable your alarm and need help.
6. The guardian is asked if they are able to help, pressing '1' if they can, or '3' if they cannot. The first guardian who says they can help will receive an SMS with the information you wrote when you created the alarm.
Knowing that someone will be contacted if you don't wake up lets you go to bed with peace of mind and get a good nights kip. In handling everything on the server, it doesn't matter if your phone is out of power or has no signal, because we only use the phone to wake you up and for you to disable the alarm.
What about when I want to go out for a run / bike ride?
For you active people we have the Activity Alarm. Before heading out you start this alarm running, it's basically a countdown timer with a few bells and whistles on. Like the Wakeup Alarm, you select some guardians and write some information about what you're going to be doing. Unlike the Wakeup Alarm you can also choose to enable a motion detector that will trigger the alarm if you stop moving for 5 minutes AND optionally let your guardians follow you in real-time on a map for the duration of the alarm! How cool is that?
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
