Dodgy app Dodgy appWell, what can I say, ...... As a 'publication' it's quite nicely done (meaning it reads quite nicely, the photos are decent). But, .... As an app it's bloody awful. I have had to re-download the app twice (which wipes out your downloads) in about 2 months. There have been several glitches with the downloads, and reading issues in off-line mode. It's now stuck/jammed again. In fairness when I have contacted Tech Support, they responded quickly. But then again nothing got fixed Avoid this app for the time being. It's too buggy and ends up being a real pain in the ...... Very disappointed. Some serious lack of QA

Hopeless HopelessI have been a subscriber of this magazine for years and enjoy reading it. The magazine is great. The app is hopeless. I receive many different magazines on an iPad but this one has the most confusing interface I have ever seen. The big problem is getting it to properly recognize my subscription and to understand how to download the copy. I long to go back to paper.

Very nearly fell for this Very nearly fell for thisI downloaded the App and the free trial issue and I have to say I was very impressed. It appears to be the complete magazine with all the adverts included as you would buy in paper form; full marks for that. The picture quality of some of the adverts is poor but that will allow for faster download times so I can live with that. Something, however, went wrong with the 'read off-line' part of the App, when the iPod was in Aeroplane Mode (and I was in an aeroplane at the time) I couldn't bring up the previously saved issue - tried again at a later time and it was there where it should be; strange. Then I read the small print and I was not impressed. The 6 and 12 month subscriptions are continually recurring, ie if you forget to cancel your subscription you'll get charged for another period when the current one expires whether you wanted to subscribe a second time or not. The small print goes on to say you can cancel the recurring bit in your 'account setting' whatever and wherever that is but I like to opt into things not have them forced upon me whether I want it or not. There is only one reason for Canal Boat to adopt this stance and that is to extract more money from individuals who don't take the time to read small print and are unaware of what they are signing up for. Shame on you Canal Boat. Remove this draconian feature and I'll sign up for 12 issues immediately, I'll even write an article, for free, for the magazine on the iPad app.

I have been waiting for this I have been waiting for thisI asked for this some months ago and now canal boat has delivered. The only thing is I was kinda hoping this would be part of my paper subscription. Because it isn't I won't be able to make use of it. I can't justify paying twice. The app is good the text is nice and clear and much easier to read than some of those tabloid newspapers I could mention. Some of the smaller photos are a bit of a struggle though.
