Alone in the Dark®

This game is fantastic on my iPhone 5 and my only problem is sometimes it goes to a black screen. Other than that it's a great port of the classic, a lot of people complain about controls but it was a MSDOS game what can you expect?

I've been waiting for an iOS port of the original Alone In The Dark for so long and this release made my day. But having said that, it’s kinda disappointing that Atari and Kung Fu Factory made a direct port rather than a HD version - to “modernise” the controls and graphics. That would've been great but nevertheless, at least it made it to the iOS. The game is exactly how I remember it years ago. It’s truly a trip down memory lane. I never did finish the game but now I can do so, which I did recently. It’s so satisfying to finally beat the original Survival Horror game. The virtual pad may take some time of getting used to but the gameplay itself is reasonably executed. A few bugs I encountered are audio cues - when the sound effects make this stretchy sound, and visual glitches - when interactive objects like doors would flicker. Another issue that I find annoying is when overwriting a save file requires you to retype the name file over and over again. Kindly fix these bugs soonest. In conclusion, Alone In The Dark is a faithful port to the iOS and it’s highly recommended to Survival Horror fans and retro gamers. I hope this is an indication that Atari will port other classic games like AITD 2-3, Prisoner of Ice and more. Keep the classics alive!

I use to love this game when I was a child, I eagerly downloaded this app thinking that would be able to get a little bit of nostalgia on a smaller screen, but sadly this half assed port will do nothing but tarnish the reputation of the first and classic survival horror game. Firstly, it's full of bugs, for example. You walk into a room and nothing is rendered leaving you with a black screen. To someone unfamiliar with the game you may think this is by design and will send you round in circles trying to figure out wtf to do next. It's obvious no testing has been performed as this is such a blatant flaw. Secondly, the control system is complete s***. In the original you had the ability to run, which some genius developer decided to remove from the IOS a version (most likely to mask how pathetic the controls are). I couldn't give a f*** about 60p, but contacted Atari on principle for a refund as they are selling a product that does not work... no reply in over 2 months. It's sad to see such a loved company rot like Atari have.
